In the Coldness of Space by Smattila In the Coldness of Space by Smattila
Hmm :iconblph: made a tutorial about asteroid populations in vue and I guess thats where all of this started from..

The scene was rendered in terragen2. Background painted in photoshop. There are bout 3million rocks in the scene + planet.. Rendering took 1hour with 3200x1600. So what you are seeing is the actual working size.

Reminds me of the moon Mimas, which looks like the Death Star a bit. ;)

Pffft! Great, again!

I think, probably, the smallest craters are a bit perfect-edged but even then, fantastic!

Thanks for the crit! I should have mixed a power fractal along those mini craters to get some edge variation!

When I saw this it reminded me of the manga (not the movie but the books) "Akira"
This character Tetsuo flies off to the moon and rips a hole in it with just his thoughts.
Anyway nice work :)

Hey, I like that. Often the temptation is to make all ringed planets gas giants. This is a nice change from that.

Thanks! I didnt actually even think about gas giants. The rockplanet just was a natural addon with the craters and all :)

That's a lot of rocks, one example where Vue can be a huge time saver when you need millions of the same thing in an instant, anyone who would have tried to manually place or paint those asteroids would have spent HOURS on it :faint: great detail! :)

Yeah it is. I'm sure vue does equally good job. I still have the pioneer version but I havent actually used it more than one day ;)

It's pretty rare to see a 3D planet that's more than just a textured sphere. I applaud you for high ass-kickery.

Now give us an animation from the surface to orbit. Make us weep from the awesomeness.
