This could totally be used for something like a series on the beginnings of earth / life.

Haha I guess it could. I wish I had enough computing power available to make it an animation

I like this. This is similar to something I've imagined in my mind for years. A planet that has been have destroyed, and the rest is nothing but a fiery waste land.

I'll try to learn how to do it from that tgd file, that's the reason you uploaded it right?

Yeah I share files occasionally. If you look thru the file sharing you will also find some clouds and a hurricane scene

Awesome! It reminds me a lot of some of the planet surfaces in X3: Terran Conflict.

Haha. You can mimic reality with fractals pretty nicely :P One of my computers was just freed from its load so maybe I'l put it to render some larger ones from this scene. I dont have the camera positions saved, so they will end up bit different :P

cool Sir. It's just a geologists wet dream to see a proto planet cooling and sorting light and heavy hot rocks.

The world is forming or the world is ending, either way it's a firey fate, and this came out looking very good. I remember how hard I tried to fake the look of true procedural worlds in Vue using just terrain-less spheres and I was starting to get fantastic results that were able to be viewed from as close as you can get before being able to need volumetric clouds and real terrain features in there...Then the file got fucked and I lost several months of work that was spread out over a few years...never had such a heartbreaking loss in my life :depressed:

So I kinda understand how difficult making procedural planets is, their upside is they tend to not use much memory. I also really like the smokey image in the bottom-right especially 8-)

Yeah..getting things to work on different scales requires some work but I think this thing turned out pretty nice. I'm probably continuing this project at some point..will see. Maybe even eventually animate, depending on how much render power I have available :P
